Tired of all the Negative in Your Newsfeed?

This morning I was doing some Facebook catch-up and one of my friends had posted this picture:

IMG_3219

The picture immediately reminded me of God’s Love and the awesome gift of prayer He as given us. It was a ray of sunshine into the dark of my early morning.

Intrigued by the beautiful rendering of the bible verse, I clicked over to the connected Facebook page and scanned through some of the content. Aside from a devotional or two most of what I spotted were simple designs of Bible verses. How cool is that?

My personal newsfeed gets cluttered with plenty of negative information. I don’t need to hide under a rock and pretend the world is all sunshine and daisies, but I do need to be intentional about balance. Every negative needs to be counter-balanced with a positive. For every minute I’m inundated by the world, I need to counterbalance with the Word. (The Word of God!)

The Page I visited is The Word For You Today USA, and it seems to primarily contain Bible verses and a few sprinkled devotions. Click the link if you’re interested in adding it to your newsfeed. While you’re at it, add some of your favorite bloggers’ pages. Facebook makes it hard to get these things regularly in your feed (they want us to pay to “boost posts”) so you’ll have to click on the “following” drop down and select “see first” and turn notifications to “on.”

If you’re going to spend time on social media, be sure to be intentional about your time and what you allow into your mind. Frankly, we need to be intentional about this in every thing we take in—music, books, movies, TV shows, acquaintances. Take great care what you spend time with and how long you spend time with it.

It’s hard to reflect God’s light when all we consume is darkness.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Philippians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Your turn!

What are you favorite blogger/bible/encouraging Facebook pages or Twitter Feeds? Please share page titles and links below so we can all have greater access to edifying content.

If you’re a blogger who keeps a steady stream of positive, godly posts (I know you’re out there because I read plenty of great stuff!), share both a link to your Facebook page and a link to your blog.

I’ll start us off with a link to the Elihu’s Corner Facebook page and @elihuscorner on Twitter. I’d love to “see” you there!

Disclaimer: I do not know what everybody’s doctrinal stances are. Always, always, always, compare what is said on these pages with God’s Word! The same goes for my own blog and page. I’m a mere human and prone to error. My aim is to ever point my readers to God, who alone is infallible, and the Word He has preserved for us.

  1. Although the primary focus of my writing is on people and their health, I use the word BALANCE on a regular basis. For me personally, spiritual balance has enhanced my quality of life. It adds a sense of strength, compassion, understanding and love for a world often lost in distraction and noise like a child expressing displeasure when told NO! This spiritual balance, however, also guides us to reflect on our own actions and choices in life. Although God is there for us in times of need, thankfulness can also be expressed during times of joy and happiness. It seems he is abandoned during these moments, yet the first name shouted during troubled times often caused by poor personal decisions in life. It is time we discover a new BALANCE and begin learning to live life with all of its blessings than merely existing off life as cannibals. This means (to me) accepting responsibility for the decisions we make for ourselves, extending our skills and knowledge to our fellow human being without requiring compensation and eventually leaving this marvelous planet with greater abundance than we have consumed. All of this becomes possible with a strong spiritual foundation.

    1. Yes, balance! I like how you say we should not “exist off life as cannibals.” It brings to mind an image of zombies. I can’t tell you how many times I have felt like I’m among the walking dead. Thank you for your comment and please be sure to put a link in here too. 🙂

  2. Nice on, Elihu. I’ve got a good mix of encouraging, challenging, chastising and defending posts about our Faith on my blog. For those who love inspiration and encouragement, I’m writing a new weekly series called “Enjoying The Grace Of God”, on Thursdays at blog.ufuomaee.org. I would love your follow on Facebook too 🙂 web.facebook.com/ufuomaeedotcom

    Thanks!

  3. Like you Elihu I believe in being real and I no longer wear a mask like I use to do when I was known as Happy Annie but being Happy Clappy when your hurting is the Pits. There is a time for everything even to cry and as Christians the Scriptures below confirm how we are to respond to others when they are hurting even though some propagate; “Laugh and the World Laughs with you Cry and you Cry alone” this is not what The Lord tells us.

Matthew 11:29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart:and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one anther’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice and weep with them that weep.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort who comforteth us in all our tribulation that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

Philippians 2:1-6 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ if any comfort of Love if any fellowship of the Spirit if any bowels and mercies, Fulfill ye my joy that ye be like-minded, having the same Love being of one accord of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things but every man also on the things of others.Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:

Acts 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

1 John 3:16-18 By this we know Love because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need and shuts up his heart from him how does the Love of God abide in Him? My little Children let us not Love in word or in tongue but in deed and in Truth. ( N.K.J.V)

1 John 4:11-13 Beloved, if God so Loved us we ought also to Love one another. No man hath seen God at any time if we Love one another God dwelleth in us and His Love is Perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in Him and He in us because He hath given us of His Spirit.(KJV)

1 John 4:6-8 Beloved, let us Love one another for Love is of God and every one that Loveth is Born of God, and knoweth God. He that Loveth not knoweth not God for God is Love.(KJV)

John 13:34-35, A New Commandment I give unto you that ye Love one another as I have Loved you, that ye also Love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my Disciples if ye have Love one to another.

1 Peter 3:7-9 Finally be ye all of one mind having Compassion one of another, Love as brethren be pitiful, be courteous.

Christian Love and Blessings – Anne.

  4. This was great!! 😀 I’m glad I found your blog! I’m about to start my blog up again (after a year of off time) and I would love to share it: http://www.forjesusfirstlovedme.wordpress.com .

DesiringGod.org also shares some great posts! I don’t always agree with their beliefs, but most of their emails are godly insights.

God bless! I look forward to reading more of your posts. (:

  5. A great truth! It is easy to find negative news, but good news is out there. One must work at keeping the right focus while seeing all the negative. Seeing the bad gives me something to pray about.
One blog on WordPress that I enjoy reading is called The Life Project. I write a daily devotional blog: http://www.insightsfromtom.com
    Thanks for sharing.
