A Prayer Before Worship

IMG_3543.JPG

Dear Heavenly Father,

I approach your throne of grace with joy this morning as I prepare to worship you today. You are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise.

You are my creator.
You have given me purpose.
You have redeemed me through the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
You demonstrate perfect justice, and yet have extended grace to thousands who submit to Your will in faith—including me.

As I get ready for worship, help me to center my heart on You, O Lord. There are always demands and distractions, but let them not detract from the purpose of this morning.

When I speak with my brothers and sisters in Christ today, may my words be edifying. Open my eyes to see the person who needs my attention. Please, grant me the courage to talk to the visitors I don’t know and help them feel welcome and wanted.

Father, thank you for our preacher. Please be with him this morning. Guide Him as He presents the message He has prepared. Guard him from temptation today and everyday. Bless his efforts to serve You. May his invitation stir the souls of the lost to come to repentance.

Be with our bible class teachers. May their preparations for class be effective. May they touch the hearts of those they teach with your truth. Strengthen them for the task at hand and give them wisdom to answer questions according to your truth.

Help my children to learn more today, Father. May I be an example to them of joyful, dedicated service. Help them to see that worship is not a chore, but a blessing. I pray they find joy in it, as I do.

Thank you for the Lord’s Supper. You know we are forgetful, Father, and this reminds us of Jesus’ matchless sacrifice. Without His sacrifice, I would have no access to You; I would be lost in my sin for eternity. Without Jesus’ resurrection, I would have no hope.

Because Jesus died, I know I am loved. Because Jesus conquered death, I have hope. Because He lives, I have confidence in eternal life after death.

Finally, Father, please be with the church. I pray our offerings will be pleasing to you. Help us do the work you intended for the church and guard us from the evil one.

Thank you Father for the blessing of worship and the opportunity to do so in peace.

In Jesus name,
Amen

Here is a great post by Elihu I read a while back and have been hanging on to it. Tonight, as you get ready spiritually to worship tomorrow I hope, these are great words to think on.
