Wisdom from Proverbs – Scripture Writing Plan for March

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

James 1.5

Our lives are peppered with daily choices, and the impact of our choices may have far-reaching consequences. To navigate through our words and our choices, we need wisdom. Living in the age of information, we have access to abundant knowledge, but wisdom continues to be in rare form.

God remains the truest and best source of wisdom. We ask for it in prayer and we can read it within the pages of the Bible.

For the month of March, our scripture writing plan will focus on wisdom from the book of Proverbs. Proverbs contains thirty-one chapters—one for each day of the month. I have pulled verses from each chapter for the corresponding day. I highly recommend reading the full chapter and then doing the scripture writing. By the end of the month, you will have read the entire book!

As I assembled this plan, I was struck by the timelessness of the wisdom in this book. For example:

“A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion.” (Proverbs 18.2)

Does this remind you of social media comment threads or certain TV talk shows?

Does it make you shudder a little? Since I’m a writer, I had to ask myself if I sought understanding or only sought to express my opinion! (Yikes!)

New for this month is a children’s version of the plan. As I mentioned last month, I noticed that my seven-year old was struggling to get through all the verses. I condensed the plan for younger children and struggling writers. We also changed a few of the verse selections. If your children do this plan beside you, you can talk about the verse they are copying. These make for great discussion points!

Here is an image of the children’s plan:

Here is a link to a printable PDF of the plan: Mar 2019 Scripture Writing Plan. One half of the page is the regular plan, the other is a children’s plan. Since it is a half page, it might fit better in your bible.

As we write through this plan, may the Lord help each of us gaze honestly into the mirror of His word and make changes where we need change and be encouraged to press on in our pursuit of Him. I’ve included pictures you can print as well as simple PDFs.

I am so grateful to Liz Smith for proofreading these plans as well as recommending changes and suggestions. God’s family is such a rich blessing and I could not do this each month without her help!

If you’ve been struggling to get started with a Bible reading plan or study for this year, this might be an ideal starting point! What ways are you engaging with God’s word this year? What has worked for you so far? What hasn’t?

  1. Several years ago a friend got me a daily reading Bible. I think for the first few years I struggled to keep up with it, but then I started picking a verse and writing a devotional on it. I’ve pretty much kept up with it ever since. Getting into a routine with Bible reading is important, like we routinely brush our teeth. Of course it’s infinitely more rewarding though!

    1. Awesome! I hope you find it encouraging. My dad used to copy a chapter per day several years ago. He said it helped him stay “on-center.” He loves Proverbs. 😊
