Arise & Build! Scripture Writing Plan October 2021

“But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they jeered at us and despised us and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” Then I replied to them, “The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build…” (Nehemiah 2.19-20)

When God calls us to serve and obey Him, there are inevitably the mockers, doubters, and discouragers who will show up to tear us down. The account of Nehemiah is a reminder to each of us that God will provide the strength and the means when we trust Him. 2020 was a challenging year for the church. The long stretches of worship on Zoom and separation from our brothers and sisters in Christ did a lot of damage to congregations all over the country. There were contentions over masks, distancing, how to take communion… the list is long!

What are we going to do to repair the damage? How can we be busy in building up the church? It’s time: Arise & Build! Like Nehemiah, we need to trust that God will help us as we strive to serve Him in the work He calls us to do.

Whatever damage Satan has wrought in your life, do not succumb to despair: ask the Lord to help you rebuild.

This month’s scripture writing will focus on the account of Nehemiah. I could not fit the entire book into one month, so I selected excerpts that take us through the narrative of where Nehemiah began, the challenges he encountered as he sought to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, and the joyful renewal of those who inhabited the re-fortified city.

I have provided 2 versions of the PDF–one in black and white, and one in color:

Sara McBroom has provided her awesome copying and tracing sheets for your little scripture writers!

I hope you’ll join us as we write through Nehemiah! I post regularly about each day’s scripture writing on Facebook and Instagram (@elihuscorner). Come visit and drop a comment!
