Fight the Good Fight: June 2024 Scripture Writing Plan

Mark Twain wrote, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” In the fight to remain faithful and share the saving truth of the gospel, you must not be intimidated by the strength or size of the enemy (Satan). It may seem like everyone is in his court and on his team. The truth is, the Lord who lives and works within us is far mightier than the enemy (1 John 4.4). It’s up to us to keep working for Him and relying on Him.

There are five aspects of “Fighting the Good Fight” which we will focus on throughout the month of June:

  1. Be Aware. The danger from Satan is real. When you decide to follow Jesus, Satan seeks to demolish your faith and derail your efforts to share the gospel. In the U.S., where there’s still a large group of people who identify as Christians, it’s easy to slip into complacency. Be on guard!
  2. Trust the Trainer. God trains and equips you to succeed in this battle ground, but you have to trust Him. He promised never to leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13.5). As we studied last month, Jesus promised to be with us always. You are not alone and you are not unarmed; you just have to take up the armor and trust in His strength.
  3. Stand Firm. Under threat, the temptation is to yield to what seems to be the stronger power. Do not yield to evil. In Jesus, you stand on solid ground. For this section, we’ll be looking at Nehemiah and the countrymen who worked with him to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. They could have abandoned the work, but they stayed the course. Let’s imitate that example of dedication and readiness.
  4. Fight. For the sake of your soul, you must be prepared to engage the enemy. If you fail to resist the devil, you will lose. Just remember, you are not alone on the battlefield, nor does success depend solely on you. If you engage with prayer, armed with what God has supplied, He will fight with you and for you.
  5. Conquer. This fight is not a single battle, but a string of battles. You must endure to the finish line. God has a victory crown waiting for you at the end.

What God calls you to do is worthwhile. He calls you to love Him with your whole heart, to love your neighbor as yourself, and to share the truth. You will face resistance, but it is a worthy fight!

I hope you’ll join us this month as we copy scriptures about fighting the good fight against evil.
