Coming Catastrophes

I've heard it three times this past week:  "A major market crash is coming soon to a 2017 near you!!!" OF course, there are multiple suggestions as to how to avoid said calamity: "Be an entrepreneur" "Invest in business" "Buy gold and silver" "Shore up your food supply" "If you're going to buy a house,… Continue reading Coming Catastrophes

What are Your Study Habits?

When I was a green seventeen-year old beginning my first year of college, I went through an orientation week affectionately called "WOW week" (aka Week of Welcome). In one of our mandatory sessions, the Dean of the College of Sciences asked us the following: How many hours did you study in high school? Do you… Continue reading What are Your Study Habits?

Are you counting on the right safety nets?

We rely heavily on our government, the stock market, the police force, the might of the military, the power of our arsenal, our bank accounts, our retirement funds, our time management skills, etcetera. We believe we have heaps of time when we really only have this moment. You never know if you'll be that person who is at work when a plane crashes through the building, or on the Champs-Elysées when a nutcase indiscriminately sprays bullets into the crows, or in the car when that teenager is fatally texting their way into your vehicle. Have we put too much faith in ourselves? Too much faith in the established order?

If there was no resurrection, what do we have beyond this life? If there was no resurrection, our Savior has no… Continue reading Why The Resurrection Matters

The Effects of Knowing God

Do you know God? In some form or fashion, everyone "knows" God...The atheist knows God as a figment of the delusional Christian imagination. God is just as mythological to the atheist as unicorns or pygmy puffs. Those who believe in such things are weak, needing some sort of crutch. Someday, that same atheist will… Continue reading The Effects of Knowing God

To Boycott or Not to Boycott…

About a week ago, the internet exploded as Bill Condon, director of Beauty and the Beast, alluded to an "openly gay moment" in the upcoming film. Social media spiraled into a frenzy. An Alabama theater refused to show the movie. Conservative groups screamed for a boycott. "Progressives" patted themselves jubilantly on the back. And me? I'm just sipping my… Continue reading To Boycott or Not to Boycott…
