Help! I need somebody, not just anybody… (Day 25 of the #encourage marathon)

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall… Continue reading Help! Hope is rising (Day 18 of the #encourage marathon)

Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says… Continue reading Hope is rising (Day 18 of the #encourage marathon)

Why do you seek Jesus?

Why do you choose to follow Jesus? Do you pursue Jesus so that you will have wealth? Do you seek to be free from loneliness by joining yourself to a church? Do you seek to be honored and respected? I read things all the time from people who say that God intends for us to be wealthy and happy and a lot of other nonsense. God does not want us to possess mere happiness---he wants us to have joy. The joy of the Lord transcends circumstance and is part of an abundant life. True riches are found in Christ and cannot be altered by the government, stock markets, or thieves. Why do you seek Jesus??

No tests?

The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts. ~ Proverbs‬ ‭17:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬ My children have taught me a great deal about parenting. For instance: when I was a starry-eyed parent-to-be I said things like, "I'll never yell at my children. I'll never say, 'because I said so.'… Continue reading No tests?

Day 30: Jesus Christ, the Son of God

Jesus has so many names: The Messiah, the Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, Immanuel, the Word, the Light. Jesus came into the World to give us life, grace, and truth. For the last 29 days, I've been writing about things I am thankful for. I saved the one of greatest import for last. Why am I thankful for Jesus? I don't think I could write enough posts to cover that answer completely...

Mommy, who is He?

It is not easy to instill in children a deep, abiding love for the Lord. Not every child will readily take it to heart. Yet, like everything we do as parents, we have to be persistent in teaching and fostering their growth. How do we help our children know the Lord?

A mere taste of heaven.

Have you ever performed in a choir, orchestra or wind ensemble? I have done all three. It's exhilarating. There is nothing quite like the simultaneity of being surrounded by and creating music. The vibrations of tightly tuned harmonies, the pulsating hypnotic rhythms, the pathos, all combine to evoke euphoric delight. Sadly, the rehearsals, performances, jam sessions,… Continue reading A mere taste of heaven.
