“Moral Excellence” or “Virtue” is a characteristic of God. As we seek to grow in our faith, He calls us to imitate Him in this trait. Excellence is not attained by accident; it must be diligently pursued.
Last year, my daughters and I attended a broadway musical production of Les Miserables. The man who performed in the role of Jean Valjean (the main character) sang his part to perfection. That level of performance is achieved through months of practice and years of training. Sometimes musicians spend hours on one line of a song or one technique required to play a section. Do we approach our faith with the same intensity? Do we receive quality training and regularly practice what we are taught? Do we try to imitate God’s excellence, or do we just shoot for “good enough”?
The scripture contains several examples of virtuous individuals. As we look at each of them this month, consider how they imitate the Lord in the characteristic of excellence. In what way can you train yourself to imitate their examples?
I hope you’ll join us this month as we consider the pursuit of moral excellence (virtue)! Click the link below to download a printable copy of the plan. If you’ve got small scripture writers, click the links below to download either the tracing or copying pages so they can write along with you.
Visit the Elihu’s Corner page on Facebook or Instagram (@elihuscorner) and say hi! Bring your questions and comments! Each day’s scripture is posted and often includes some reflections on the passage.
Special thanks to Liz Smith, Sara McBroom, and Dione Curtin who have helped me prepare, proofread, and assemble this month’s plan.
