"Mom, I need to get a zipper binder and headphones." "Dad, my teacher said my pencil box isn't big enough. I need another one" "Mom, I have to have a zipper binder too." My head was spinning. It was only the first week of school, and on top of the lengthy list of supplies we'd… Continue reading What Our Children Need Most

It’s okay to feel out of place
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. J.R.R. Tolkien A few nights ago, as I struggled to get to sleep, I flipped to my Bible App and opened Psalm 90. Earlier in… Continue reading It’s okay to feel out of place
A heart in tune
O Thou Fount of ev'ry blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me ever to adore Thee; May I still Thy goodness prove; While the hope of endless glory, Fills my heart with joy and love. Here I raise my Ebenezer, Hither… Continue reading A heart in tune
Does God allow us to face the “impossible?”
"God never gives you more than you can handle." Have you ever heard this phrase? I hear it frequently applied to difficult circumstances, but I believe it is untrue. It is a misuse of 1 Corinthians 10.12-13: Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you… Continue reading Does God allow us to face the “impossible?”

The Meeting We All Desperately Need
Last week, I attended a webinar hosted by Michael Hyatt, the New York Times Bestselling Author, speaker, and blogger. One of the action items from this webinar involved “making an appointment to write” and keeping it just as you would any other… Continue reading The Meeting We All Desperately Need
Who Do I Fear More: Man or God?
When I choose the wrong path while under pressure, is it mere weakness or something more? I lived in California for over 30 years. I learned early-on that I was often in the minority religiously, morally, and politically. In fact, if one held a remotely conservative view, silence was the recommended modus operandi... unless you wanted to… Continue reading Who Do I Fear More: Man or God?
Is Your Parenting on Cruise Control?
Parenting is inconvenient. Yes, I just said that. Once you have a child, your life will be forever changed. You will be humbled. Humiliated. Screamed at. Loved with abandon. Squeezed with unimaginable strength by those little arms. Amazed. Shocked. heartbroken. Overwhelmed with love. Filled with a newfound awe for your own parents. Unfortunately, once the baby… Continue reading Is Your Parenting on Cruise Control?
Are you counting on the right safety nets?
We rely heavily on our government, the stock market, the police force, the might of the military, the power of our arsenal, our bank accounts, our retirement funds, our time management skills, etcetera. We believe we have heaps of time when we really only have this moment. You never know if you'll be that person who is at work when a plane crashes through the building, or on the Champs-Elysées when a nutcase indiscriminately sprays bullets into the crows, or in the car when that teenager is fatally texting their way into your vehicle. Have we put too much faith in ourselves? Too much faith in the established order?
How do I read through Leviticus?

Parts of Exodus Leviticus Prophetic books containing apocalyptic language are an obvious challenge. It takes research into the symbolism, a knowledge of the historical time frame, and a… Continue reading How do I read through Leviticus?
