Standing on the Promises: Scripture Writing Plan January 2025

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Russell K. Carter, 1886

In 2025, some things might be changing for you.

You may be implementing some new resolutions, buying a new home, preparing for a baby, or planning for retirement. As you’re working through these transitions, things may become unstable in your life. People and/or institutions you once depended upon for stability may start shifting. Your carefully stitched plans might even unravel due to circumstances beyond your control. However, there is one thing that will never fail you: the promises of God.

Why are we able to stand firmly and securely upon God’s promises?

God is trustworthy.

Reading through the scriptures, it isn’t hard to find evidence of God’s reliability. When He makes a promise, He keeps it. God commanded Adam & Eve not to eat from the tree because they would die, and they were cut off from the tree of life when they disobeyed. God warned Noah of a catastrophic flood, and the flood arrived with all the destructive power He’d promised. God promised that the Israelites would inhabit Canaan, and they did. God promised a Savior, and the Savior came just as He had said. He is faithful, trustworthy, and reliable.

Moses wrote in Deuteronomy, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations…” (Deuteronomy 7.9, ESV) Moses was acutely aware of the faithfulness of God, having witnessed it firsthand during the plagues of Egypt and the provisions in the wilderness.

In your own life, you’ve likely seen more than a few answered prayers. Whenever and wherever you see God’s faithfulness, share it. Write it down. Commit it to memory. When we express gratitude, we also build our own trust in the Lord.

God is powerful.

God is faithful, but what enables Him to fulfill His promises is His limitless power. You and I, being limited by the confines of space, time, and age, are unable to keep every single promise we’ve ever made or ever will make. It’s impossible. We should, as Jesus commanded, “let [our] ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and [our] ‘No’ be ‘no,'” (Matthew 5.37), but there will be times because of unforeseen things like illness or catastrophic accident that we cannot fulfill what we intended to fulfill.

God is not limited to a specific place or time, nor is His power restrained. When He makes a promise, He cannot be thwarted by anyone. The devil has tried and failed. People have tried and failed.

God is able to do what He has planned no matter what, and we can therefore trust in His promises.

As you begin to make your plans for 2025, remember to entrust them to the Lord. It is His plans and promises which shall stand and they are always better than our own.
