Blessed: February 2025 Scripture Writing Plan

“Blessed” is a ubiquitous word here in West Texas. It’s not uncommon to hear phrases like, “Have a blessed day,” or, “Be blessed,” or “Bless your heart.” (FYI, that last phrase is not always intended to be kind!). When a word such as “blessed” is used so frequently, it has a tendency to lose its original meaning. In the Bible, “blessed” is employed in a couple different ways:

  1. “happy, fortunate, to be envied” (Strongs)
The following definition from HELPS Word Studies is a little more detailed: “describes a believer in [an] enviable (“fortunate”) position from receiving God’s provisions (favor)–which (literally) extend(“make long, large”) His grace (benefits).” The Greek word is “makarios” (New Testament), while the Hebrew uses “esher” in a similar way (Old Testament).
  2. To honor and reverence someone (like God).
For example, in the Psalms it will read, “Bless the Lord” or “Blessed be the name of the Lord.” However, in blessing the Lord, we cannot confer the Lord’s favor on Himself, but we can honor, worship, and reverence to the Lord. (The Hebrew word used is “barak”)

For this month’s scripture writing, we will be reflecting on passages connected primarily with the first usage.

In January, we focused on the reliability of the promises of God. Now let’s focus on the blessings that come from adopting the characteristics God wants us to have. Genuine praise and abundant giving are more likely to come when we are mindful of the profusion of God’s blessings. The world wants us to feel like we are missing out on the latest and greatest, but in the Lord we have all we could possibly need.

Please join us this month as we meditate on what it looks like to be “blessed!”

  1. I absolutely loved January’s Scripture writing plan! Every day, by getting into His Word and being reminded how faithful God is in keeping His promises, gives me peace, the peace of God. I believe He wants that for each of us! Thank you! I am looking forward to February’s Scripture writing plan BLESSED!! It also help when you write a little “summary” of what we are focusing on!
