It’s Back to School Season!

August, in all it's heat, is back again. A nearly palpable sense of change is in the air, even if you are far removed from school and school-aged children. Parents push baskets full of school supplies, their faces creased with worry lines. Aisles teem with pencils, erasers, markers, and backpacks. Soon, the school bus will… Continue reading It’s Back to School Season!

A Prayer Before Worship

Dear Heavenly Father, I approach your throne of grace with joy this morning as I prepare to worship you today. You are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. You are my creator. You have given me purpose. You have redeemed me through the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. You demonstrate perfect justice, and… Continue reading A Prayer Before Worship

Does God allow us to face the “impossible?”

"God never gives you more than you can handle." Have you ever heard this phrase? I hear it frequently applied to difficult circumstances, but I believe it is untrue. It is a misuse of 1 Corinthians 10.12-13: Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you… Continue reading Does God allow us to face the “impossible?”

To The Parents with the Squirmy Kids at Worship

I saw you on Sunday morning. I watched you walk down the aisle at least three times. On the first trip, you held a squirmy baby in one arm and a diaper bag in the other. Your second exodus involved a recalcitrant toddler, howling like a wolf at the moon. You made your last… Continue reading To The Parents with the Squirmy Kids at Worship

When Prayer Feels Counterproductive

What do you do when your prayers feel ineffective? Maybe you've had this problem. Maybe you haven't. I'll be honest. In my time as a Christian, there have been moments of doubt as to the productiveness of praying because the enemy kicked me back down as soon as I stood up to fight. Imagine having… Continue reading When Prayer Feels Counterproductive

Why We Should Celebrate Independence Day

I hope you enjoyed your Independence Day Celebrations yesterday! Here's another article I wrote for The Courage in honor of this day and the people who died to preserve our freedom. “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a… Continue reading Why We Should Celebrate Independence Day

Why You Need to Keep Both Hands on the Wheel

My biggest surprise in learning how to drive was how much I had to do to keep the car going straight. This might sound funny to you, but I didn't realize why it was necessary to keep your hands on the wheel while going in a straight line. I just thought people did that in case they need to turn or veer away from an obstacle. Go ahead. Laugh. It was a pretty ridiculous assumption.

The Meeting We All Desperately Need

Last week, I attended a webinar hosted by Michael Hyatt, the New York Times Bestselling Author, speaker, and blogger. I highly recommend his work, especially as he teaches from a Christian perspective. One of the action items from this webinar involved “making an appointment to write” and keeping it just as you would any other… Continue reading The Meeting We All Desperately Need
