Growing in Knowledge: May 2026 Scripture Writing Plan

What is your favorite way to learn something new? Some like reading or listening to books; others prefer demonstrative tutorials; still more enjoy simply getting to practice and experiment. The best type of learning incorporates all of these styles.

In his second letter, the Apostle Peter wrote: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to His own glory and excellence… make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge…” (2 Peter 1.3,5) In this text, Peter actually uses two different greek words for knowledge: epignosis (verse 3) and gnosis (verse 5).

Epignosis. According to The Topical Lexicon, epignosis is “an experiential, relational, and transforming knowledge.” Because we “know” God (i.e., we have a relationship with Him through Christ), we are being transformed to become more like Him. As we grow in our understanding of the character of God and witness His work in our life, it should change our lifestyle, thought process, and behavior.

Gnosis. This word refers to a working knowledge. In many lexicons, they attach “science” to its meaning.

As we follow Jesus, we must grow in both “gnosis” and “epignosis.” In order to do this, we must acquire facts, while also growing in our relationship with the Lord. Both are vital. Engage with the scripture. Prioritize prayer. Live what you learn. Listen for His guidance.

Engaging with scripture can be done by copying out the scriptures (Scripture Writing!), listening to audio versions, annotating the text, and participating in studies with other Christians. Prayer ought to be a combination of daily time alone with God and small prayers throughout the day of thanksgiving and petition. Before you pray, remind yourself that you are approaching the throne (reverence) while also coming to the loving Father (a close relationship) for help. All of these practices–both prayer and study–are useless if not applied in daily living. Growth in knowledge is apparent when there are changes in our thoughts and our actions.

I hope you’ll join us this month as we consider growing in knowledge. Click below to download a printable copy of the plan. If you’ve got little scripture writers, download the tracing or copying pages so they can write along with you.

Visit the Elihu’s Corner page on Facebook or Instagram (@elihuscorner) and say hi! Bring your questions and comments! Each day’s scripture is posted and often includes some reflections on the passage.

Special thanks to Liz Smith, and Sara McBroom who have helped me prepare, proofread, and assemble this month’s plan.
