Wholly Devoted: August 2026 Scripture Writing Plan

An Image of the back of a Sunflower turned toward the sunlight with title "Wholly Devoted: August 2026 Scripture Writing Plan" and a list of scriptures for the month of August.

Heliotropism is a movement of plants following the progress of the sun throughout the day. With their large, sunny round blooms, sunflowers are the most widely recognized example of this phenomenon. Even before they bloom, the plant’s leaves seem to reach eagerly toward the sun as if that is the whole purpose of its existence. Is this how you behave towards God?

When you wake up, do you turn our heart toward Him?

Do you seek His guidance as you face and make choices?

Is He your last thought before you fall asleep each night?

Just as a sunflower is heliotropic (i.e., turning towards the sun), we must be “theo-tropic” (turning towards God). This is the essence of godliness. Godliness is something which we are supposed to add and increase in our lives. The word, by definition, means well-devout or well-reverenced, with some lexicons explaining it as “God-toward.” To truly honor God, He wants us to be all in, wholly devoted to Him and His will. Train yourself–your mind and heart–to live this way. It does not happen by accident.

In this month’s scripture writing plan, we will be considering the concept of godliness by looking at what the scripture describes as godly character, as well as some people in the bible who exemplified it in their lives. I hope you’ll join us as we copy down these scriptures and consider how to train our hearts to always be God-facing or “God-toward.”

My phone is a huge distraction, so I find it helpful to have a printed version of the plan handy when I sit down to write. You can download a printable copy of the Scripture Writing Plan below:
