Serving God by Controlling Self: June 2026 Scripture Writing Plan

If nobody exercised any sort of self-control, what would life be like? The careful discipline of self control is practical and useful for all of humanity, but especially for the one who follows Jesus. Exercising self control allows the believer to serve more effectively and joyfully.

When Jesus lived on earth as a man, he demonstrated the value of self-control as a way of serving His Father. He was not greedy nor demanding; He put the needs of others ahead of His own. Every word He uttered was purposeful. In the garden, even as He wept and prayed, Jesus guided His actions by submitting to the will of the Father. In order to imitate Him, we must practice self-control by aligning our thoughts with the Word, guarding our heart, tempering our emotions, choosing our words with care, and disciplining our body in order to serve Him best.

The goal of self-control is not to save ourselves or to make ourselves “look good.” Our aim should be to serve the Lord in the best way we can because we love Him and long to be like Him.

I hope you’ll join us this month as we consider how to exercise self control in order to serve the Lord well. Click below to download a printable copy of the plan. If you’ve got little scripture writers, download the tracing or copying pages so they can write along with you.

Visit the Elihu’s Corner page on Facebook or Instagram (@elihuscorner) and say hi! Bring your questions and comments! Each day’s scripture is posted and often includes some reflections on the passage.

Special thanks to Liz Smith, and Sara McBroom who help me prepare, proofread, and assemble each month’s plan.
