On this New Year’s Day, we begin a new trip around the sun, full of expectations, hopes, and goals. Is one of your goals to draw nearer to God? He longs for each of us to know Him more, to trust Him more, to love Him more. Success comes from joining our small efforts with His great will. It comes as we study His word daily, call on Him daily (sometimes hourly!) and trust Him even when nothing makes sense.
Are you having a “FroMoJah” day?
"FroMoJah" is not a new frappuccino. "Hi, yes, I'll have a grande FroMoJah frappuccino please---extra whip." It isn't some sort of hashtagy NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) Challenge. #FroMoJah2018 "FroMoJah" is a day or a moment when everything is so overwhelming you just want to sink to the ground and throw in the towel like… Continue reading Are you having a “FroMoJah” day?
Does your mind need a little boost?
I've been fighting sickness for nearly two weeks. It started with a cough that stole my voice and ended with a sinus infection. I tried everything to get well and stay well, but in the end I needed to go to the doctor. It seems odd that something so trivial could impact my mood, but… Continue reading Does your mind need a little boost?
10 Anti-Complaining Passages to Sharpen Your Sword
So you thought we were done with the complaining series, eh? We're getting closer... There are three words every Christian should use when confronted with temptation: It. Is. Written. Of course, it doesn't do any good to use these three words if you don't know what is supposed to come next. Our Savior set an… Continue reading 10 Anti-Complaining Passages to Sharpen Your Sword
Elevating Eight Update!
Good morning, y'all! Our family is gearing up for Christmas and this one is shaping up to be so delightful. My six-year old son has been using his money to buy presents for all his favorite people. He even wrote a "Penguin Book" to mail to his Mima. My daughter wrote in nearly all the… Continue reading Elevating Eight Update!
You will never look at your laundry the same
I beamed with satisfaction as I folded the last pair of socks. Feeling a renewed sense of vigor, I decided to get a head start on tomorrow’s laundry. I turned to my daughter, who was sitting in the chair reading, and asked, “Would you mind grabbing the clothes from your hamper, as well as your… Continue reading You will never look at your laundry the same
Renew Your Mind With the Elevating 8
In the classic children’s game of Chutes and Ladders, the object of the game is to be the first player to reach the finish line. Each player rolls the die to move forward, hoping to avoid the chutes—which slide your game piece downward—or land on ladders—which bring your piece nearer to the finish line. Controlling… Continue reading Renew Your Mind With the Elevating 8
When the Storms of Your Life Will Not Let Up
In West Texas, we get our fair share of storms. It may rain buckets for an hour and flood the streets, or drop baseball-sized hail, destroying life and property. Other times the wind kicks up dust, eliminating visibility and running off with roof tiles. Typically, these storms visit us for a brief period—ranging from one… Continue reading When the Storms of Your Life Will Not Let Up
My best thought for Thanksgiving, and always.
Today, many of us will be gathering with family or friends to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. To be candid, I approach the holidays like a soldier living in a war zone---I just want to survive. The pressure to meet expectations, make people happy, shop frugally, cook perfect meals (or sides), make… Continue reading My best thought for Thanksgiving, and always.
What I learned when I stopped complaining for 24+ hours
Two weeks ago, our family traveled from Texas to Nevada so my spouse could go rock-crawling in our jeep. Having just written and brainstormed about curbing complaining, I was determined to implement it on the trip. I learned plenty of good lessons that I hope will help you as you work on kicking this habit.… Continue reading What I learned when I stopped complaining for 24+ hours
